Coaching Ministry

In episode 35, Pastor Trent and Pastor Greg talk about our coaching ministry, joined by the Pastor of Connections, Taylor Knight.

Show Notes

What is our leadership pipeline?
  • Our basic level of leadership is a volunteer leading themselves.
  • Team leaders lead the volunteers.
  • Coaches then lead those team leaders and small group leaders.
  • Ministry Directors are over a certain ministry.
  • Senior leadership of the church.
What are you looking for in a coach?
  • First and foremost we are looking for alignment and that comes through our partnership.
  • You have to go through the first Journey Class, Basecamp.
  • You have to have leadership in the area you are coaching.
  • We want to make sure that our coaches have been in that position before, whether it be small group leaders or team leaders over a ministry.
  • We would prefer if they have branched their small groups.
  • What is branching?
  • Branching process is twofold. The group has branched because it has established a leader and the leader has been commissioned to take half the group and lead it well.
  • The leaders of the group have gone through our discipleship process known as the Journey.
  • Basecamp, Camp II, and Camp III
  • They would have to be a co-leader for at least 6 months to be a small group leader.
  • Coaches can lead small groups as well.
How do you recruit someone to be a coach?
  • Your greatest recruiters are those who are already bought into that ministry.
  • We are consistently asking who can be a leader next.
  • We have training videos and one on one meetings with coaches.
What does it look like to be a coach?
  • Relational discipleship with a focus on leadership.
  • Three things asked to do
  • Meeting with the Small Group leaders they coach one on one.
  • Meeting with all their Small Group leaders collectively.
  • Visiting the small group meeting and seeing what they need to coach.
What does it look like to run this ministry?
  • You aren’t releasing them to do this on an island.
  • Constantly reminding them of the vision and strategy.
