Multi-site

In episode 30, Pastor Trent and Pastor Greg talk about planning and launching multi-sites.

Show Notes

Why do we do multi-sites?
  • Foothills is launching a new location in two weeks.
  • For us, the reason for multisite is to make mature disciples of Christ in relational environments.
  • In so many ways when you are church planting you are in survivor mode.
  • You don’t have to be a big church to start a multisite. Size doesn’t determine it, health does.
  • It is good to have churches that do it differently than your church because there is no specific right way to run a multisite.
  • It will be run differently based on leadership, size, and context.
  • Finding people that preach well and stick around is hard to find.
  • When we look at our multi-sites, we have to ask if it’s reproducible and sustainable.
  • If you can create a philosophy of ministry or multi-sites that says yes to both of those that’s the lane you want to be in.
  • You have to have someone focusing on the plan of multi-sites. You can’t have one person doing two jobs.
How did you decide on a location?
  • Being in the area and noticing the growth.
  • We spoke with people who knew the area well.
  • We did demographical studies to understand what the community was really like.
  • You have to have a leader.
  • The reality comes from a sense you get from God.
  • In our context, people don’t drive thirty minutes to church. What we found was that people were living in that area driving thirty minutes to us.
How did you begin to cast vision to the church?
  • We had no small groups meeting in that area. We decided to move to that area and start a small group.
  • As you cast that vision you are trying to convince people to care about another city or area.
